EXPLORE HOUMA WELCOMES #THBIGCRAWFISH TO VISITOR CENTER

Crawfish season just got a whole lot bigger in Louisiana’s Bayou Country. Explore Houma is excited to announce that #TheBigCrawfish, a towering 30-foot, 400-pound crawfish, now has a permanent home at the Explore Houma Visitor Center.

Originally created in partnership with Lamar Advertising, the oversized crawfish was designed as part of Explore Houma’s eye-catching, double-stacked billboard along Highway 90. The billboard, which ran for several years and won the prestigious Obie Award for outstanding outdoor advertising, promoted the Bayou Country Crawfish Trail, celebrating Terrebonne Parish’s culinary traditions.

Constructed from styrofoam, #TheBigCrawfish represents far more than a larger-than-life roadside attraction. The crawfish is a powerful symbol of the region’s seafood industry and thriving culinary scene, of which both are cornerstones of life in Terrebonne Parish. It is also a meaningful emblem for the United Houma Nation, for whom the crawfish holds cultural significance, further connecting the installation to the area’s heritage and identity.

Now relocated to the Visitor Center, #TheBigCrawfish offers visitors a fun, memorable photo opportunity that reflects the culture, flavors, and traditions of Bayou Country. Guests are invited to snap a photo with the crawfish and Explore Houma’s iconic big white shrimp boots, making it a must-stop moment while exploring the area.

The Explore Houma Visitor Center is open to the public and serves as a hub for travel inspiration, local attractions, and authentic Louisiana experiences. With the addition of #TheBigCrawfish, the Visitor Center continues to highlight the people, stories, and symbols that make Terrebonne Parish unique.
