EXPLORE HOUMA ANNOUNCES RECORD TOURISM GROWTH FOR TERREBONNE PARISH

Explore Houma is proud to announce significant tourism growth in Terrebonne Parish, with newly released 2024 data highlighting the industry’s continued impact on the local economy.

In 2024, Terrebonne Parish generated nearly $248 million in visitor spending, marking an impressive 51% increase over 2023. This growth reflects a rising interest in the region as a destination known for its authentic culture, outdoor experiences and welcoming community.

Tourism also played a vital role in supporting local livelihoods, generating approximately 2,500 jobs and $78 million in employment earnings across the parish.

In addition, visitors contributed $28 million in state and local tax revenues, also a 51% increase over the previous year. These contributions directly benefit infrastructure, public services and overall quality of life for residents.

“If it were not for the taxes generated by visitors to Terrebonne Parish, each household would pay an additional $695 in taxes annually,” said Sondra Corbitt, President/CEO of Explore Houma. “Tourism is not only an economic driver but a meaningful way we support our community while sharing our culture with others.”

As Explore Houma continues to promote the region, these numbers reinforce the value of tourism in supporting local businesses and enhancing the overall visitor experience.
