Biscuits, Brews, and Big Flavors: The Buttery Crumb is Here!
Houma has a new breakfast hotspot, and you’ve gotta try it! Founded by Erica Duthu, a native of Houma and resident of Bayou Blue. The Buttery Crumb has quickly become the town’s newest breakfast obsession. After nearly three years of planning and preparation, Erica brought her dream of owning a restaurant to life, officially opening The Buttery Crumb in October 2024.
A self-taught home cook with a passion for food, Erica spent years working in insurance and finance, but her heart always led her back to the kitchen. Her mentor, Eric Cook—chef and owner of the popular New Orleans restaurant Gris Gris—recognized this passion and encouraged her to take her dreams to the next level. Cook told her that her true calling was in the kitchen, sparking her decision to take a leap of faith and pursue her culinary dreams. Erica wanted her restaurant to reflect Houma’s unique flavors and culture, but more importantly, she wanted something new and fresh for her community. And The Buttery Crumb is precisely that.
The journey began with Erica sharing mouth-watering photos of her biscuits on Facebook, quickly capturing the community’s attention. The excitement culminated in The Buttery Crumb’s grand opening on October 16th, where they sold out in just a few hours!
So, what makes The Buttery Crumb so irresistible? It’s all about their homestyle biscuits, with several options offering a Cajun twist. Try the Zydeco Biscuit, a local favorite made with a boudin patty, eggs, and a warm, buttery biscuit. For those with a sweet tooth, the Cinn of a Biscuit—a warm, homemade cinnamon roll biscuit—will hit the spot. The menu also features specialty breakfast items like the Lagniappe Bowl, loaded with house potatoes, boudin, eggs, southern gravy, cheese, and your choice of bacon or sausage.
But it’s not just about the food. The Buttery Crumb also serves up a variety of coffee options that are just as delectable as their biscuits. Try their Iced Brown Sugar Shaken Espresso or the Coast Roast Specialty Brew to fuel your morning.
