2021, What a Year!

There is no denying that 2021 is a year we won’t soon forget. As we ring in 2022, let’s take a look back at some inspiring events, noteworthy causes and defining moments of 2021.

Introducing the Bayou Country Crawfish Trail

In March, the Houma Area Convention and Visitors Bureau introduced the highly anticipated Bayou Country Crawfish Trail. Terrebonne Parish, known as Louisiana’s Bayou Country, is the center of crawfish mania, and with this Trail, you won’t have to go far to find your favorite crustacean!

Celebrate Spring the Cajun Way!

The White Boot Stroll was a new event to the greater Houma area that was put on to celebrate the best of Terrebonne Parish’s arts and culture. Guests enjoyed live music, art installations, photo opportunities, and more!

Tourism Returning to Terrebonne

During the COVID pandemic, tourism in the U.S. came to a screeching halt as most cities were shut down. In May, we saw the industry make a comeback as visitors traveled down to Louisiana’s Bayou Country to experience our culture, food, music and southern hospitality. National Travel and Tourism Week shined a spotlight on the collective strength of the U.S. travel industry following the COVID pandemic.

Blood, Sweat and Tears – Finding Our Roots Museum

After closing due to the pandemic, Finding Our Roots Museum proudly re-opened their doors to the public, showcasing history through preserved artifacts and extensive research.

Houma’s First Pride Picnic

Houma helped celebrate Pride Month with its first LGBTQ+ Family Pride Picnic at the Visitors Center. All were encouraged to join in on the fun with snowballs and snacks!

Hurricane Ida

Ida made landfall on August 29, 2021, as a Category 4 hurricane, wreaking havoc and leaving a path of destruction in her wake. Many homes and businesses were destroyed, and most people were left without power and running water. Ida was one of, if not, the worst storms our generation has witnessed, and our community is still recovering from the aftermath of Hurricane Ida to this day.

Bayou Country Toy Drive

The Houma Area Convention and Visitors Bureau collected toys for children ages 0-16 in the hopes of bringing a little Christmas magic to families in Terrebonne Parish still recovering from Hurricane Ida. Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, we were able to help 161 families in our community and distributed over 650 toys.
