Rougarou Festival

Rougarou Festival

OCTOBER 23–25, 2026

Looking for a Halloween-season celebration that’s spooky, swampy, and full of Louisiana flavor? Look no further than Rougarou Fest—Houma’s award-winning celebration of folklore, culture, and all things creepy-cool. Named one of the Top 20 Events in the Southeast by the Southeast Tourism Society, this quirky festival brings the legendary Cajun werewolf (the rougarou!) to life with a mix of costumed fun, live music, and bayou-style revelry.

From the vibrant Krewe Ga Rou parade to costume contests, swamp pop bands, and eerie art installations, the Rougarou Fest is unlike anything else in the country. Come for the folklore, stay for the food, and leave with memories you’ll howl about all year long.

Festival Tips

  • Most food and craft vendors accept cash and cards
  • Festival is held outdoors—costumes are welcome, but dress for the weather
  • Free parking available downtown and in surrounding lots
  • The event is family-friendly, though spooky fun is part of the charm
  • No pets, please (we’ve got enough monsters running around!)

Make the Most of Your Experience

Get your rougarou costume ready and arrive early to beat the crowds. Spend the afternoon shopping and sampling local eats, then grab a front-row spot for the parade. Be sure to check out the Haunted House, storytelling tent, and folklife demonstrations—and don’t leave without snapping a selfie with the Rougarou itself.

Stay the weekend and explore Houma’s haunted history, swamp tours, and cozy cafés. You might just fall in love with the bayou… or at least its monsters.
