Re-Opening of Southdown Plantation & Museum

September 7, 2023 @ 10:00 am

1208 Museum Dr. Houma, La Southdown Plantation

We’ll be open for tours to the public starting Thursday, Sept. 7th, from 10:00am-3:00pm.

As our community continues to rebuild from the aftermath of Hurricane Ida, we are reminded of the resilience of the residents who live, work and play in Louisiana’s Bayou Country. We hope you’ll continue to support businesses like Southdown.
According to Southdown Plantation’s website, the last operational sugar mill in Terrebonne Parish was the Southdown Mill, located adjacent to Southdown Plantation House. It closed in 1979 and was dismantled and shipped to Guatemala, where it was reassembled for continued operation. Plantation life and the sugar industry are just two of the many topics explored by the exhibits of Southdown Plantation House/The Terrebonne Museum. In addition to the museum displays, the House itself reveals information about life in South Louisiana through its architecture and design.
