Louisiana Through Wild Eyes is a collaborative, traveling art exhibit by photographer Dave McNamara and watercolor artist Katherine Klimitas that explores the rich and untamed beauty of Louisiana wildlife. Each show features a unique pairing of Dave’s striking wildlife photography with Katherine’s expressive watercolor interpretations, offering two distinct yet harmonious perspectives of the same subject.
Through Wild Eyes invites viewers to see Louisiana’s animals through both the lens and the brush—two visions, one wild story.
DAVE MCNAMARA: Dave McNamara, a native of south Louisiana, spent 50 years as a broadcast journalist, videographer, and documentary producer. As a television feature reporter, he traveled across the state capturing stories of its people, cultures, and history, often working in bayous, swamps, and cypress forests. In 2009, he created Heart of Louisiana, a weekly feature for WVUE-TV in New Orleans. Working as a one-man band, McNamara traveled through all 64 parishes, documenting the spirit and beauty of his home state. That work evolved into a passion for landscape and wildlife photography.
KATHERINE KLIMITAS: Katherine Klimitas is a New Orleans–based watercolor artist best known for her highly realistic paintings of animals and wildlife. Born with osteogenesis imperfecta (brittle bone disease), she has lived with severe physical limitations and had broken over 500 bones by the time she was ten. Today, she paints while lying down, adapting her process to her body rather than letting limitations define her work.
Katherine’s art focuses on capturing personality, emotion, and quiet strength in animals. Her work includes custom pet portraits, wildlife paintings, limited-edition prints, and gift items, all created with meticulous attention to detail and expression.
